Great e-bay find!!

Today I found an amazing steal on eBay. It is the most powerful thing on earth as the ad states “The ring is blazing with powerful energy.” It is a voodoo ring and according to the ad it holds the ancient eyes of voodoo in it, and wearing it for more than two hours at a time can cause serious dizziness and nausea. To me this seems ridiculous but to my surprise there are actually two bidders fighting over the voodoo ring. The price has reached $157.50. The webpage that is made to look mysterious and official. The bottom of the page it even states “this ring has made EVERY PERSON that has owned it, VERY VERY VERY VERY RICH AND SUCCESSFUL!” I think one of the funniest things about it is that the ring is listed on eBay as HAUNTED RING~ANCIENT EYES OF VOODOO! and underneath that there is a little catch line “DON'T MISS THIS ONE FOLKS! AMAZING POWER LOOK!” This almost sounds like the man at the carnival trying to get people to play the carnival games. Apparently there are people who think that this is worth their money but it seams like a big superstition thing to me. If you wanna check out this amazing item the link is:

In Class Videos

During the course of this class we watched a few different videos and i thought that they were all usefull to the topic that was trying to be explianed, some more than others but all usefull. Tthere where two videos that I really enjoyed the documentary that we watched, but my favorite movie that we watched in class would have to be the most recent one "Once". I really liked this movie because it is something that I would not have seen outside of class, and I really enjoyed watching it. I think that watching videos in the class offers a different kind of learning experience that is usually not included in most courses. I myself learn more visually than anything else so I really enjoyed watching the videos. All of the videos did a good job of setting an example of sort for the next paper. But I think that there was one video that did not do as good of a job as others, and that would be "The Office" episode. It might just be because Steve Correll is in it and I cannot take him seriously when it comes to studying for an upcoming assignment. However it was very entertaining and not at all a waste of time it is just hard for me to look at that as an example or as study material.

Favorite Toy

I don't know why when thinking of my favorite toy this one came up, it was an oversized metal yellow dumptruck it was so big that I could fit into the back part of it until I was about 7. I think that is the reason why I liked this toy so much, I would always sit in the back and push with my feet and zoom around the house. or even better yet I would sit in the back and have someone push me around the house. Another reason why I think I liked the dunptruck so much was because my grandparents gave it to me when I whent to visit them in Florida one year. Every year I would get something new when I whent to visit but the dumptruck was my favorite. I kept this toy even whell after I could not fit into it anymore I would put my little brother in it and push him around. After niether of us could fit in the back anymore we kept it for a few years, and then gave it to my younger cousin and as far as I know he still has it. What I think this toy said about me, or explians how I am today is that I love driving it calms me down can make me happy and its almost therapeutic. This toy just showed that I always have to be moving which is true to this day.

A Show Worth Watching

My favororite show of all time is Deadliest Catch and the season premier is tomorow and I could not be any more exited. Deadliest Catch is a schow about crab fisherman in the bearing sea off the coast of Alaska. The reason it is called Deadliest Catch is becouse by statistics crab fishing is the deadliest job on earth, more people die doing that job than any other. It makes for a great show not only the suspence but just waatching them pull up full metal pots of crab is one of the coolest things ever. A "pot" is what they use to trap the crab until they are brought up onto the serface and stored on the boat a full pot can hold up to a few thousand dollars worth of crab and since everyone is payed on commission more or less on how much the boat can catch throughout the season it is really important to everyone to catch as much as possible. the seasons themselfs only last about a month or less but each deckhand on the boats can earn any where from twenty thousand to on the bigger boats up to forty thousand. There are two main seasons for crab fishing so one can make up to eighty thousand dollars a year by just working two months a year. To me this is amazing, these men are taking amazings risks for their jobs but they can make an amazing amount of mony at the same time.

Extreme Emotion

My extreme emotion is kind of a downer but it is the most recent time where one moment in my life had so much impact. To give a little backstory when I was 12 we bought a new dog named Jack, he was one of the best dogs ever he would always lay next to you never be mad and always tried to make you happy. He could even tell if you would sick and whenever I was sick he would never leave my side just lay next to me all day. And at night he would always sleep at the end of my bed so even when I was on vacation it was wierd not having him at the foot of my bead. On the first weekend of school I was going to go home to get somethings that I had forgoten. Before I even left my Dad called me, I could tell he was upset and that something was wrong. He told me that jack was dying and asked when I was leaving to come home, I told him not till later. He didnt think he would even last that long and drove down from the cities to get me. I was told that there was a tumor in his stomach that burst and basically he was bleeding internaly, he wasn't in pain though becouse of the medication. Jack was the only thing that I really missed about home and all of the sudden out of nowhere he was dying. What really struck me was that when dogs die they go to a safe happy place, and when my parents found him he was curled up in my closet on my clothes. It was the saddest worst car ride home ever. But as soon as i got to see him he smiled, yes my dog smiles. It was a pretty bad way to start off not living at home, but thats how it happend, and that is my extreme emotion.

Ad's

When it comes to advertisements I don't really notice much about them. To me ads like they are getting more and more rediculouse, so i try to avoud them. But there is one kind of add that seames to catch my eye and that is just the simplest type of advertisements. One that sticks out in my mind would be when you arre coming into makato on 169 south there is a big billboard that just has the pepsi logo on it with a matching blue background. To me this is the best kind of advertisement it is simpple and gets the point across, buy pepsi. There is one kind of add tht i can just not stand, the radio commercial ad, I think this may just be becouse they are so overplayed and they are always on. Without that visual effect it just seames too boring and actually annoying to listen to. This is probably why i never listen to the radio, my iPod plugs into everything that i would ever listen to music on, this way I an just aviod the radio commercial all together. When it comes to television advertisements the best one are on during the superbowl, even if they are made super cheap people have put time into making them and thinking them up unlike the commercials that are on during the rest of the year that to me just seam stupid. Overall the best kinds of ads in my mind is the ones that are the mose simple.

Spring Break

Sam's spring break was pretty non-eventful, the majority of his break was spent at the Ridgedale Byerly's where he works. However Sam was lucky enough to go home early getting home on thursday the reason he simply wanted to go home, that night he whent to a midnight showing of 10,000 B.C. not the best movie ever made but he thought the visual effects were the most entertaining part of the film. He spent friday night mostly as home woth his family for a late birthday dinner even though he was unawhere of how many people were coming over it was somewhat of a suprise. Later that night Sam whent to St. Paul to visit a freind. Now came time to work Sam worked from Monday threw Friday of that week and workin about 30 hours. During that week on Tuesday he whent back to St. Paul to party at a friends appartment and whent to Mickeys Diner for the first time, he loved the food. The next day he whent back to St. Paul to meet up with some other friends and eat at Cosseta's Sam's favorite italian or pizza place. Sam ended his break by planning a small trip with a few freinds up to Spirit Mountian in Duluth where he stayed for one night, and when he came back that Sunday his parents suprised him by giving him and his brother two club level tickets to the Bruce Springsteen concert at the Excel Center. The concert was amazing one of the best he has been to, and they topped off the night by returning to Mickey's Diner after the concert. For being a pretty un-eventful vacation he had a great time.

Pursuasive Paper

For my pursuasive paper I am writing about school searches. I am taking the position that if a person pays to rent out a space such as a locker or a parking space or dorm room it becomes that persons personal space and is subject to the same search and siezer policy as any other car or home that is privatly owned. So if the school would like a way to search anything on the property without following the how it is legally done to any other private property the area wanting to be searched would have to be free to whomever is using it becouse than it is still property of the schools. I have found a few different sites that state local law and sites that state constitutional rights that give schools different rights and ability to creat there own "school law". During writing this blog I am now becoming concerned about how to right the paper without making i sound to wordy, and less like a legal document and more like a well flowing paper. There are suprisingly alot of sources wiith many different views on how the laws regarding school searches are to be inturpreted, and carried out.

"A Modest Proposal"

I have read this paper a few times and every time I read it I cannot figure out if this is his real offer is for real or if there is an underlying message. But the way i have taken it so far is that this is his extreme quick fix to the problem at hand. The offer states that the children of poor families most of whom are beggers should be sacraficed for the greater good of the kingdom and the families will be paid for the child at one year of age and the child will be prepared as food for the higher powers of the kingdom. He claimes that this will solve many problems the poor families will have a legitamate income, there will be plenty of food to go around, as whell as a new custom for the cititzens. He also mentioned that no part will be wasted the hide will be used to make an assortment of goods, such as gloves for women and possibly boots for the men. This is a very interesting aurgument besides the obviouse flaws that would not be accepted in todays culture this "Proposal" would solve many problems that the country faced and it would do so very quickly.

Film Review

Last class we watched a video called "Go Further" in this movie Woody Harrellson often refered to as Woody Allen by his close friend biked along the west coast for over 15000 miles to raise awhareness on how to live a healthier life while treating the enviroment with respect at the same time. I really liked the video i thought it was really interesting and funny at the same time Woody's friend who is a self proclaimed "junk food addict" just seems to be tagging along for the nice views as they bike down the shore. One of my favorite parts was when after finishing up a talk about how to treat your body better and buy products from local farmers instead of coorporations Woody's friend is shown smoking a Marbolo cigarete, and takes a verbal beating from anyone on the tour that saw him.
I liked wathing this movie and watching how many different characters dealed with the different situations that came along on the trip. One of the older guys on the trip took a pretty nasty fall about halfway through the trip and needed to go to the hospital. They cleaned him up he recieved a few stiches and the next day he was on his bike. He was only able to bend one knee but apparently that was enough for him so he rode on only peddeling with one leg.

History of a name

There is somewhat of a funny interesting story I am named after my great grandfather on my mom’s side of the family. He was my mom’s only living grandparent and they called him grandpa Teddy shot for Thomas. My mom wanted to name me after him but also liked the name Sam so there was a compromise and I was named Samuel Thomas. When she told her mom, my grandma asked why she chose the first name Samuel because my mom was not a where that Grandpa Teddy's middle name was Thomas and his first name was in fact Samuel. So by complete coincidence I was named after my great grandpa with his first and middle name. That is the story behind my name and how it came to be.

Research & Concerns

During the library session I learned a few things since i have never been in the library before besides cutting threw the basement on cold days. I learned just about everything I will need to know to find everything for my paper. I learned how to do simple things like look up book on the computer which i had no idea how to do before the visit. But he most important thing that I think that i learned would have to be the database's on the website, becouse during previouse research in highschool these were my main source of information, and im glad that there are so many database's.
There still are some concerns that I have about writing this paper but its not so much about the paper itself. My paper is about the begining of snowboarding and how it all began, I kind of think of it as a "Lords of Dogtown" for snowboarding. My only concers are about what is going to go in the paper and how I am going to orgonize it in order from past to present while at the same time fitting all of the different aspects of the paper in. Since there are so many different thing and topics I could write about but I want it to be easily understood from what happened in the begging to what is happening now.

Bitter Cold

I really don't mind cold weather because I love to snowboard but its when it is that dry bitter cold, that does bother me. the biggest thing that bothers me about the cold is just simple things that have to be done like walking to class, it just makes it that much worse. There is something even worse than that most people might not think of this but when it is really cold out the snow sucks for snowboarding. when it is that cold the runs get really icy with a thin layer of ice shavings on top. this is the worst kind of snow because it is hard to stay in control and it takes all the wax off the snowboard. I really don't mind bundling up but its the snow conditions that really bother me. There are some good things about the cold. The dorm that i live at is always really hot so we always have the window open and fan going this is when we are glad to have cold weather because it cools down the room.

Favorite Song

For this post it is hard for me to pick my favorite song because i like so much different kinds of music so allot of my favorite songs are not really comparable to each other, although if i had to choose just one i think it would have to be "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan. this song was off his first album release in 1976 off the album "Desire".
I think the reason I like this song so much is because it is the music that I grew up with because it is what my parents listened to, and also my first concert that i ever went to was Bob Dylan at the target center with my parents when I was about 9. The reason that I still love this song to this day is because it has a good story to it, that is based off a real event that happened and the song inspired a movie.
It is also interesting to know that the song is about a famous boxer that is wrongly convicted of a crime and in real life Bob Dylan supported him all along and strongly supported a retrial/investigation that eventually freed the the famous boxer.

Favorite Place

My favorite place is nothing that one might expect, it is what I think to be one of the most peace full places if not the most peace full place that I have ever been. This place is not too far from where I live in Minnetonka Minnesota, this place is called Pineknot Cabin. This cabin is just located in between Tofte and Lutsen Minnesota, just about thirty minutes south of Canada on the famous highway 61 often sang about by Bob Dylan and in the title of his album "Highway 61 Revisited".
Pineknot Cabin is this old classic 1920's log cabin that is located on a 40 foot rock cliff that overlooks Lake Superior, this is a true log cabin all walls including the inner walls between the rooms are made of completely logs and no nails can be found. I first went up to Pineknot about a year ago on a family trip to the north shore and I fell in love with it. I was lucky enough to be able to go back last spring break with four other friends of mine. We where able to stay for five nights and snowboard at Lutsen for four days. All of my friends loved the cabin so much that not only did we name the moose head that hung on the wall Sir Buckington, we also left a personalized note to ourselves in his antlers for when we go back. We are currently planning another trip this upcoming spring break with more people to enjoy to enjoy the amazing Pineknot Cabin with us.
